FELMERA at Designblok 2026

When a Rug Becomes Architecture.

‍

Light as the Craftsman’s Primary Tool

Prague, October 2026 – The Slovak brand FELMERA will present an exhibition at Designblok 2026

that elevates the rug from a decorative object to a work of architecture.

FELMERA creates hand-woven rugs from industrial wool felt made from 100% European wool.

Behind the brand lies a family textile tradition dating back to 1963 - an experience that today

intersects with contemporary design, architecture, and a new approach to working with materials.

“Bridge between generations” is one of FELMERA’s core principles. It combines the craftsmanship

passed down through generations with a contemporary perspective onthe product, space, and

material.

The Rug as a Space

This year’s Designblok theme, “Light,” also served as the starting point for FELMERA’s exhibition

concept.

In the workshop where hand-woven carpets are created, natural day light accompanies the entire

creative process. It reveals the structure of the fibers, the rhythm of the weaving, and the trace of

the human hand. It becomes a silent partner to the craft, which develops slowly and requires

experience.

The exhibition therefore treats light not as an effect, but as aprinciple.

The entire space is created from a single material—the carpet. It rises seamlessly from the floor

into vertical planes, envelops the furniture, and shapes the very architecture of the exhibition. The

product ceases to be an exhibited object and becomes a space within which the visitor can move.

The visitor does not enter a space in which the carpet is on display. They enter directly into the

carpet.

The minimalist installation highlights the material’s natural structure, its softness, its tactile quality,

and the way it reacts to light.

“Behind every hand-woven rug lies time, experience, and the workof specific people. We wanted

visitors to see the rug not just as a finished product, but to appreciate the process behind it,” says

Romi Klimeková - RK Selection Studio, which created the concept for the FELMERA

exhibition at Designblok 2026. From a Family Craft to a Contemporary Architectural Product

FELMERA was founded in a Slovak family setting where expertise in textile creation has been

passed down since 1963. Today, the brand draws on this traditionto blend handcrafted artistry,

experimentation with materials, and contemporary architectural design.

The rugs are handwoven on the brand’s own vertical looms and are designed for contemporary

residential and commercial interiors. FELMERA also offers custom dimensions and solutions for

architects and interior design projects.

Participating in Designblok2026 is an opportunity for FELMERA to present not only a specific

product but, above all, a way of thinking about materials and craftsmanship.

It demonstrates that traditional craftsmanship need not remain a thing of the past.

It can serve as a bridge between generations, a material for contemporary architecture, and the

foundation for new design.

LIGHT AS THE CRAFTSMAN’S FIRST TOOL

Here, light does not illuminate an object.

It illuminates the process.

And it reminds us that behind every hand-woven rug lies patience, knowledge, experience, and the human hand.
